Arpeggio

Frequently asked questions.

Getting started with the free music visualizer for Mac.

Is Arpeggio free?

Yes. Arpeggio is a free music visualizer for Mac. You can download it or try the interactive stage in your browser.

Which macOS versions does Arpeggio support?

Arpeggio requires macOS 14 or later.

Can I try Arpeggio without installing it?

Yes. The homepage includes an interactive browser playground. Press play on a sample song and switch on effects, or drop your own song onto the stage. The browser stage requires WebGL 2.

Can I use my own songs, images, and videos?

Yes. Drop a song, an image, or a video onto the stage. Images and videos provide the picture that the effects transform.

How do effects react to music?

Arpeggio analyzes the song’s frequency bands, hits, and tempo before playback. Settings can follow five pulses—Low, Mid, High, Hit, and Beat—with different response shapes. You can stack fifteen shader effects to build a look.

How do scenes work?

Arpeggio has eight scenes. Pick a scene while a song plays and it waits for the beat, then blends in over a bar. In the Mac app, you can pin scenes along the song to play them automatically.

Does the browser playground upload my music?

No. Songs you drop onto the browser stage are read and processed locally in your browser, not uploaded. The site separately uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to measure site usage and performance.

Does Arpeggio work with Spotify and Apple Music?

Yes. In the Mac app, choose Listen beside Song (⇧⌘L) and Arpeggio hears whatever your Mac is playing: Spotify, Apple Music, a browser tab, anything. Nothing is muted or rerouted, so you hear it exactly as before. The first time, macOS asks you to allow audio recording. Listening to your Mac needs macOS 14.2 or later. More on visualizing Spotify and Apple Music.

Can I record the visuals as a video?

Yes. Press ⌘R in the Mac app to record the stage and the song as you play them, scenes and all, into an .mp4. Recordings keep the stage’s shape: 16:9, 4:3, 1:1 or 9:16.

Can I show it on a projector or a second display?

Yes. From Stage, Arpeggio can go full screen on another display, such as a projector or a TV.

Is there a Windows, iPhone, or iPad version?

Not at the moment. Arpeggio is a Mac app. On other devices you can try the playground in a browser that supports WebGL 2.

Is the download safe?

Arpeggio is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app. It keeps itself up to date and tells you when a new version is ready.
